Shake things up with seasonal feeding!

28/01/2022

After attempting to answer the one question all pawrents are dying to know (Whether they should dress their furry friends in winter — you can check out the article here: URL), let’s move on to another controversial topic: Do puppers and doggos require a different diet for winter?

Much like humans, doggos require more calories for warmth during the colder seasons of the year. If you have been feeding your pup the same kibble year-round, take this as an opportunity to switch things up for your baby with some seasonal feeding! Warm reminder: before you make any alterations to your pet’s diet, please consider consulting your veterinarian to find out what your pet may or may not be allergic to!

Unless your doggo is a full-time snuggler who would rather sit on your lap all day than to do zoomies and go crazy, winter is the perfect time to offer them healthier carbs, since even with thicker coats, cold weather activities require more energy, which can be up to three times as many calories as are needed during summertime! You can try spicing up your pup’s meal with the below:

  • Legumes
  • Potatoes
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Oats
  • Barley

You can even give this dog-friendly chicken soup recipe a try!

From Dogs Naturally Magazine:

  1. Place three to four chicken thighs in six cups of water. You can also add chopped celery and carrot.
  2. Bring to a boil and simmer for 1½ to 2 hours.
  3. Remove skin and bones, and set meat aside.
  4. Strain broth and use it to boil 1 to 2 cups of chopped vegetables (like carrot, celery, yam, cauliflower) for 20 minutes.
  5. Allow to cool before serving.

It is easy to switch up your furry friend’s diet with the seasons, particularly if you enjoy a variety of fresh foods yourself. If you intend to make your pet’s meal more enjoyable and seasonal, now is the time to try!

In addition to offering your furry child a well-balanced diet, you can also consider giving them an all-rounded protection! OneDegree Pawfect Care provides your furry companion with the protection the deserve. Learn more.
