Congenital condition

A congenital condition is a defect or disorder that's present at birth and is not hereditary.

Why it matters:

Many pet insurance products don't cover, or restrict coverage of, congenital and hereditary conditions. OneDegree's Pawfect Care doesn't cover congenital conditions but illnesses or disorders passed down genetically are covered.

It can be tricky to determine whether a condition is hereditary or congenital, as signs and symptoms may not be noticeable until the pet is older. In that situation, we'll defer to your vet to make the diagnosis.
